I have a a 1997 Buick LeSabre and they need new brake pads and I need to turn the rotors.
How can I do this myself? How do I do a break job on my Buick? It's easy and very possible providing you have the proper tools. You should have a hydraulic floor jack to lift the front sub-frame on jack-stands. Swing the front brake you're working on so it points out. Compress the brake caliper against the outer brake pad and behind the brake caliper with a large C clamp or better yet a Jorgenson slider clamp (available at Sears). Using a 1/2 ratchet and 1/2 metric sockets remove the two bolts that secure the caliper to the caliper bracket and hang it with a coat hanger to the coil spring. Remove the old brake calipers. Remove the remaining brake caliper bracket metric bolts. Spray Blaster Rust Solvent in the lug nut holes. It helps to have a one or two pound maul to strike the reverse side of the brake rotor to break it loose from the rust on the wheel hub.
To do a good job you must purchase a flat hard 1/4" mandrel mounted wire brush %26amp; mount it to a 3/8" drill motor to clean the inside flat surface of the brake rotors when you get them off to remove any and all rust. Clean around the wheel studs also if there is any rust left in either of these areas the rotors will run-out laterally after all your hard work.
Before sliding the rotors back on paint the inner stud hole face of the rotors with never seize so they'll never stick again. Apply CRC Brake Quiet to the steel side of the *ceramic brake pads.
Make sure to apply synthetic brake grease to the slider pins before reassembly.
That's pretty much it!
