I mainly use it for cellphone chargers, scanners, etc. Looking underneath the ashtray, there is a gray clip that seems to be holding it in place. Problem is I can't get this clip to detach from the notch in the frame of the ashtray above the clip. And I am afraid if I try to pry it that I will damage it (I can get it to detach from the back and bottom, just not the top). I would assume once detached I would simply need to slide the old lighter socket out, slide the new one in, and re-attach the clip? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. How do I replace the cigarette lighter on a 1998 Buick Century? Most of these are screwed in to a jacket, So simple using a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the side turn it counter clockwise to unscrew it. Then once loose form the inner nut jacket you should be able to remove the wire.
It just a snap on clip that holds the wire on.
Or directly above the lighter socket are two Phillips screws, you will need a little stubby Phillips screw driver to remove them, then just slide the ashtray assembly out so you can reach all of it.
