What causes a 1999 buick park avenue to cut off while idling?

The car car runs great until you stop at stop sign or you take your foot off the accelerator? When it idles it idles down lower than it should. What could be the cause of this ?What causes a 1999 buick park avenue to cut off while idling?I would suspect the EGR valve is sticking open. It allows a little exhaust gas into the engine to reduce emissions. If your problem is almost always after coming to a stop, this is a good candidate for being the trouble maker. The reason being... when you start the car and warm it up, the EGR valve never opens. Once the car is warmer and you are cruising, the computer will open the egr valve, and then it gets stuck (at least for awhile). This problem may get worse and worse over time.

The other candidate is the idle air control valve (IAC), but usually this would cause problems anytime you idle, not just after coming to a stop (i.e., when you start the car).

Other possibilities (although in my opinion less likely or at least much more uncommon):

Alternator

Fuel Pressure Regulator

Throttle Position Sensor

O2 Sensor

Powertrain Control ModuleWhat causes a 1999 buick park avenue to cut off while idling?Any one of a multitude of possibilities. Idle speed is controlled by the computer, so take it in and have them scan the system to see why it doesn't stay where it belongs. If the computer is called for the correct RPM, and the vehicle isn't responding to the command, replacing the idle control valve would probably be in order.
