It turns over, but does not stay started. It seems like after a few minutes of trying, it will just decide to start. It does not have anything to do with the weather or anything else, what can it be? This problem is hit and miss and does not happen all the time.I have a 1995 buick park avenue that sometimes will not start? The old tests are still the best.
1) Is the gas getting through?
2) Is there a spark at the plug?
If yes to both, is the timing set up right, are the plug points clean and is the distributor clean and set right?
re 2) it has to be STRONG, visible spark, if it's weak the coil or battery should be tested.
If it's high mileage then you may have excessive wear on the bores and your mixture is not being efficiently compressed, get a pressure test on each cylinder, the shop should know what an acceptable figure is.
More on the gas, check that the fuel flows smoothly (remove the feed pipe at the carb end and turn the engine over (pointing the pipe into a jar or tin). It should flow smoothly as the starter turns, if it's "jumpy" and stops and starts you may have a blockage either at the pickup in the tank, along the pipe or in the fuel filter (if fitted). Check and clean as required.
If still no joy you could get a shop to run diagnostics on the whole setup.I have a 1995 buick park avenue that sometimes will not start?Sounds electrical to me. Try a new battery and cleaning cabble ends. If that doesn't work go to a shop and have them diagnos it for you it may be alot of things but sounds electrical to me.
TS I have a 1995 buick park avenue that sometimes will not start?hmmmm....any check engine lights? maybe a leaking fuel pressure regulator. maybe a bad fuel pump.
